DISCOVER THE HISTORY OF MUSIC

New Discoveries appear every Friday (and sometimes extra discovery articles and features even crop up during the week too), arranged on a particular theme.

Mymusicdiscovery.com wants to introduce people to new areas of music. Music is all one thing. Everybody can learn from eachother, and people can then make better music. If circumstances have, since the early 1980s, taken away much of what gave people the ability to write great and lasting music, listen to more records! Knowledge and information are the key to changing this situation.

Rock fans, learn about possibly the first rock composer, Beethoven. Listen to that great piece of Debussy.

Jazz fans, listen to what was played before 1945, or even 1925.

Classical fans, learn about what has happened in popular music!

As Duke Ellington said, there are only two categories of music: good music and .... the other music.

"Music can (portray anything) provided it continues to charm and remains music"
Mozart

"He who has the best record collection writes the best songs"
Keith Richards

"Almost every penny he got, he didn't spend it on a guitar or an amplifier, he spent it on records"
Curtis Knight on the young Jimi Hendrix

"We were told, you gotta respect all the music... That's just how it is, you gotta listen to everything you know"
Dr John

"We listen to so many different kinds of music that... (we're) somewhat unique in that way"
Nikki Sixx
